What makes Hello Tempayy a unique vegan protein option?

Tempayy is made by fermenting whole non-GMO soybeans.

Alternate protein or plant-based meat is increasing in popularity, and one such protein is tempeh. As an easy addition to a variety of recipes, tempeh adds great nutritional value, especially for those who face difficulty in meeting their daily protein requirements.

Hello Tempayy has brought this traditional Indonesian food product to the forefront in its natural and a variety of flavoured forms. For the purpose of this article, we shall focus on their product – Natural Tempeh Cubes, which are tempeh cubes without any added flavours.

Why tempeh needs to be part of your diet

  1. High in protein – 19 grams of protein per 100 gms serving, wherein the recommended daily protein requirement for an adult is 0.8 grams per kilogram of body weight
  2. Low in carbohydrates & high in fibre
  3. Gut friendly & easy to digest – the high fibre content and fermentation of soybeans add to the nutritional value of tempeh that makes it an easy option for the gut
  4. Rich in micronutrient profile. Tempeh is packed with Vitamin B12 and iron and also contains other micronutrients like magnesium, phosphorus and manganese
  5. Dairy & gluten-free
  6. Can be added to any recipes made at home as a protein, similar to paneer or tofu.

Remember that

  1. Tempeh Requires refrigeration at 0-4 degrees (mentioned on the packaging). However, before cooking, if not thawed correctly, it can lead to loss of texture or/and not cooking properly.
  2. The product claims to have no added preservatives or additives. However, as with all packaged foods, if one has a choice, we suggest going for a fresh option. Having said that, we all sometimes need quick & easy fixes to cover our nutritional needs, and that makes Hello Tempayy a fine choice indeed.

Who should avoid this product?

  1. Anyone with an allergy to soy
  2. Anyone with hyper/hypothyroidism should avoid soy or consume it in moderation after consulting with their nutritionist
  3. For anyone with hypertension, while it’s safe to consume the “Natural Tempeh Cubes” since the ingredients already include iodised salt, we recommend avoiding adding additional salt to your recipes.
  4. Anyone in their Prenatal or Postpartum journey should consult their doctor and nutritionist before consuming tempeh
